What is Beauty Acupuncture?

Beauty acupuncture is a treatment that helps improve skin concerns and bring out natural beauty. Unlike regular facials or skincare, beauty acupuncture involves inserting fine needles into specific acupoints on the face and body, improving blood circulation and promoting skin turnover (the skin’s natural regeneration process). As a result, various skin benefits such as lifting effects, a smaller face, enhanced skin firmness, and improved radiance can be expected.

Beauty Acupuncture vs. Cosmetics

For example, even when using high-quality beauty serums, their ingredients only penetrate to the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. The skin has a “barrier function” that prevents foreign substances from entering the body. Even if the ingredients do penetrate deeper, they are eventually excreted through the blood and lymph.

On the other hand, beauty acupuncture can reach at least 5mm into the deep layers of the skin, even if the needles are inserted shallowly. New skin cells are formed not on the surface but in the basal layer and the deeper dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Beauty acupuncture is the only method that can directly stimulate these deeper layers, activating the skin’s natural regeneration abilities and promoting metabolism.

Mechanism of Beauty Acupuncture

Structure of the Skin

The skin is made up of three layers: the “epidermis,” “dermis,” and “subcutaneous tissue.” The epidermis consists of four layers: from the outermost layer, the “stratum corneum,” “granular layer,” “spiny layer,” and the “basal layer.”

The dermis lies beneath the epidermis and is composed of collagen (collagen fibers), elastin (elastic fibers), hyaluronic acid, and water. It plays a significant role in the firmness, gloss, and fine texture of the skin. The subcutaneous tissue is the layer between the dermis and the fascia, made up of fat cells. It functions as a cushion against external stimuli, regulates body temperature, and provides heat production.

What is Skin Turnover?

The primary physiological functions of the skin are protection (shielding against external stimuli) and excretion. Cells produced in the basal layer of the epidermis gradually rise to the surface, changing shape, and eventually become keratinized cells in a dead state. These cells are pushed to the surface by new cells, and ultimately shed as dead skin. The epidermis is constantly renewing itself, and when this turnover happens correctly, even if the skin is injured, it forms a scab, and clean skin is regenerated afterward.

How Long Does Skin Turnover Take?

Skin turnover (metabolism) typically takes about 28 to 56 days, and as you age, it slows down. A delay in turnover can lead to problems such as dull skin or an increase in age spots. When deep wounds occur, scars tend to form, and collagen that maintains skin elasticity decreases. Exposure to UV rays also reduces skin elasticity, making UV care essential.

It’s important to address deep wounds quickly, normalize turnover, and maintain strong skin. Moisturizing, protecting, and controlling the frequency of washing are crucial for maintaining healthy skin.

If turnover is too slow, dead skin cells accumulate, causing dullness and roughness, and healing of scars is delayed. On the other hand, if it happens too quickly, immature skin cells are pushed to the surface, making the skin prone to dryness. Maintaining an appropriate turnover speed is key to keeping skin healthy.

Repair Mechanism of the Skin After Beauty Acupuncture

When the human body is damaged, inflammation occurs, and the damaged tissue is replaced with new tissue as part of the repair process.

STEP.01

When acupuncture is applied, the dermis is initially damaged. Microscopic bleeding occurs, and a clot is formed by platelets to stop the bleeding.

STEP.02

White blood cells increase outside the blood vessels and enter to engulf bacteria and dead cells. After completing their task, the white blood cells self-destruct, and the macrophages (large phagocytic cells) consume them. Once dead cells are removed, the chemical messengers involved in inflammation are neutralized, and inflammation subsides. New cells begin to repair tissue, aided by growth factors.

STEP.03

As a result, new cells form, the skin becomes softer, wrinkles fade, and lifting effects or reduced swelling are achieved.

※Growth factors are proteins that communicate between cells and stimulate cell growth. They control the movement, proliferation, extracellular matrix formation, angiogenesis, and remodeling of various cells during wound healing. Key growth factors include bFGF, PDGF, TGF-β, EGF, with bFGF playing a particularly important role in wound healing, and is used in clinical wound healing treatments.

Effects of Beauty Acupuncture

Skin Regeneration
Beauty acupuncture promotes skin metabolism and helps regenerate the skin. This results in younger, healthier-looking skin.
Reduction of Wrinkles and Fine Lines
Beauty acupuncture stimulates collagen and elastin production, which are essential for maintaining skin elasticity, resulting in a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines.
Improvement in Skin Firmness and Elasticity
Beauty acupuncture improves blood circulation, supplying essential nutrients to the skin. This leads to improved skin firmness and elasticity.
Regulation of Autonomic Nerves
Beauty acupuncture helps balance the autonomic nervous system, controlling stress responses in the body. This reduces the impact of stress and anxiety on the skin and provides overall relaxation effects.

Beauty Acupuncture at Our Clinic

Clients who have received beauty acupuncture at our clinic have shared numerous positive experiences such as “I have fewer breakouts,” “My skin tone has brightened,” “My makeup goes on better,” “My skin feels softer,” and “Swelling has reduced and my face looks smaller.”

Beauty Acupuncture

By stimulating acupoints on the scalp and neck, we enhance blood flow not only at the needle insertion sites but also across the entire face. The needles used in the treatment are “Unico” beauty needles, which have a special coating to minimize pain and ensure a safe, comfortable experience.
