What is the “Electrical Acupuncture” you mention? Is it scary?

It is a method of “Direct Neuromuscular Facilitation.” It is not scary—it is the most efficient way to retrain your face.

While many salons offer “facial machines,” our Electrical Acupuncture is fundamentally different in depth, precision, and medical theory.

1. The “Depth” Advantage: Why Needles Beat Machines

If you have used home EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) devices or received microcurrent facials, you know they use pads on the skin surface.

  • The Problem with Surface Devices: Human skin is designed to be a barrier. It naturally resists electricity (impedance). For a surface device to reach the deep muscles, the power must be turned up high, which often causes a stinging pain on the skin surface before the muscle even contracts.

  • The Acupuncture Advantage: By inserting a needle, we physically bypass the skin barrier. The needle acts as a direct conductor, delivering the electrical pulse inside the muscle belly.

    • Result: We can use a much lower, gentler electrical setting while achieving a much stronger, deeper muscle contraction. Zero skin pain, maximum muscle effect.

2. The Mechanism: “Resetting” Resting Muscle Tone

Why does this help smile lines? Smile lines often deepen because the cheek muscles (Zygomaticus major/minor) have lengthened and weakened—they have lost their “resting tone.”

  • Passive Exercise: The electrical pulse forces the muscle to contract and release rhythmically (e.g., 1 beat per second).

  • Muscle Spindle Activation: This rhythmic contraction stimulates the “muscle spindles” (sensors inside the muscle). It sends a signal to the brain to “reset” the muscle’s tightness.

  • The Lift: After the treatment, the muscle holds a tighter, shorter resting state. This naturally pulls the cheek fat pad upward, smoothing out the nasolabial fold.

3. Two Modes of Action: “Tightening” vs. “Loosening”

At Medical Japan, we do not just turn the machine on. We customize the frequency (Hertz) based on anatomy:

  • Low Frequency (1–2 Hz) -> To TIGHTEN (Tonification):

    • Target: Cheek muscles (Zygomaticus), Forehead (Frontalis).

    • Effect: Creates a rhythmic “pumping” action that builds muscle tone and drains edema (swelling). This creates the “Lift.”

  • High Frequency (50–100 Hz) -> To LOOSEN (Sedation):

    • Target: Jaw muscles (Masseter), Neck muscles (SCM).

    • Effect: Continuous stimulation fatigues the overactive muscle, forcing it to relax. This slims the jawline and stops the “downward pull” on the face.

4. Is it Safe for Everyone? (Contraindications)

While safe for most, we adhere to strict medical safety protocols.

  • Dental Implants/Fillings: COMPLETELY SAFE. The current does not affect metal in the mouth.

  • Hyaluronic Acid/Botox: SAFE. It does not dissolve or shift fillers.

  • Pacemakers: As a precaution, we do not use electricity on patients with pacemakers (though standard acupuncture is fine).
